Mount Tabor

View from Peak of Mt. Tavor - Copyright Nir AlonMount Tabor is a round-shaped mountain in the Jezreel Valley, in lower Galilee. It rises up to 1750 feet above sea level.

Its unusual shape, and the fact that it stands alone, attracts attention. Deborah, Barak and 10,000 men from the tribes of Naphtali and Zebulun gathered there to fight the Canaanites (Judges 4:6).

Mount Tabor is also the place that is believed to be a possible site of the Transfiguration of Jesus. In 1924, a church called the "Basilica of the Transfiguration" was built on top of the Mount, with a mosaic of Jesus surrounded by Moses and Elijah, and below them, Peter, James and John.
