The northern part of Greece located between the Adriatic and Aegean Seas. The Macedonians were part of the Hellenic race, they dominated the eastern Mediterranean area until Rome came into power. Alexander the Great came from Macedonia. Paul had a vision of a Macedonian imploring him to come to Macedonia (Acts 16:9-10).
Paul traveled through Philippi, Thessalonica and Beroea on his second missionary trip, and was imprisioned in Philippi for a while. He left Timothy and Silas in Beroea before moving on to Achaia (the southern part of Greece). Paul returned to Macedonia on his third missionary journey (Acts chapter 20), and the church at Philippi contributed money for Paul's welfare, and Paul showed great affection for these churches.
In 146 BC Macedonia became a Roman Province, and Jewish communities were found in Macedonia before the end of the 1st century AD, along with Christian communities.
