Apollos

Apollos was a Christian Jew from Alexandria, Egypt. He is said to have been a great teacher and preacher. He is mentioned in several New Testament passages, including Acts, chapters 18 and 19; 1 Corinthians, chapters 1, 3, 4 and 16; and Titus 3:13. He heard about John the Baptist, and what John said about Jesus, but that was all he knew (Acts 18:25-26), until Aquila and his wife Priscilla met him in Ephesus and instructed him in the life of Jesus.

He became a popular teacher of Christianity, as Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 1:12. The church in Corinth was breaking up into four parts. Some in the church wanted to follow Paul, and some wanted to follow Apollos or Peter, while others said they were followers only of Jesus. Paul reminded them that neither he, Apollos or Peter died for anyone's sins, and that only Christ can atone for their sins.

Paul also described himself in his teachings as one who planted, and Apollos as one who watered what already had been planted.
