Herod Philip

Herod Philip, also known as Philip the tetrarch, was son of Herod the Great and his fifth wife Cleopatra of Jerusalem.

He was the half-brother of Herod Antipas and Herod Archelaus. He lived from about 4 BC to about AD 34, during the time of Jesus and Pontius Pilate.

Herod Philip is mentioned in Luke 3:1 as being the tetrarch of Iturea and Traconitis, which comprised a northeast portion of the land that his father had ruled over before his death.

He married his niece Salome, who was the daughter of Herodias, best known for her role in having John the Baptist executed.
