Dorcas (also known as Tabitha)

Dorcas, also known as Tabitha, was a Christian woman from Joppa. She was known for her acts of charity, which included making garments for poor people. When Dorcas became ill and died, many people mourned her. They sent for Peter who was only a few miles away in Lydda. Peter prayed over her, and then said "Tabitha, rise up." She opened her eyes, saw Peter and sat up. This event became known all over Joppa, and many came to believe in the Lord. (Acts 9:36-42).
