That the Messiah would appear before the second Temple was destroyed (70 AD)

The prophet Daniel lived about 2500 years ago and delivered a prophecy that revealed a chronology of events that would involve the timing of the arrival of the Messiah.

Daniel, who lived during a time when Jerusalem and the first Temple were in ruins, revealed, in Daniel 9:24-27, the following series of events:

1. There would be a decree to rebuild Jerusalem.
2. Jerusalem and the Temple would be rebuilt.
3. Then an anointed one (Messiah) would be "cut off," which is an idiom for "rejected" or "killed".
4. Then Jerusalem and the Temple would be destroyed again.

Each of these things happened. Jesus appeared about 2000 years ago and announced that he was the Messiah. He was rejected by many people and killed (crucified) by the Romans. About 40 years later, the Romans destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple.

The only person in history who is widely believed to be the Messiah is Jesus Christ. And, he first appeared before the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple, just as Daniel had proclaimed.
